昨日は３年前に仕事をしたイギリス在住の制作者Gちゃんと、同じ番組を作った関東在住の同業者と３年ぶりの再会が叶いました。
その番組がこれ。のちのち賞も獲ったドキュメンタリーですが、半年に及ぶ準備と撮影の間にコロナパンデミックが忍び寄り、予定とは違う展開が本当に多かった現場でした。
ともかく、３年間のキャッチアップをしまくりました。Gはお母さんが日本人、お父さんがイギリス人で、日本のように単一の国籍を選ばなければいけない制度について「わたしはイギリス人であると同時に日本人であり、わたしの国籍をどちらかに選ばなければならないと制度に言われたくない」という話が印象的でした。それに少子化の今、二重国籍の若者が行き来しやすいことで日本に住む可能性も増えると思うのですが。そうなると税収も増えます。
単一国籍にこだわる人の意見では日本の福祉制度が悪用されるなどがあるようですが、自分の国で稼げない人が日本で生活保護するために
だけ来日するとか？ 実際にそういう人には会ったことがないので、どれだけそういう人がいるのかなとも思います。
同業者Cさんの近況も聞けて、本当に楽しかったです。
I met my colleagues yesterday. One is G living in London and the other is another field producer living in Japan. It's been three years since we worked on this program. This is an award winning show that took us six months to prepare and film as the pandemic started towards the end.
We talked a lot to catch up for the missing three years. G has a Japanese mother and a British father. She told me why the countries like Japan requires people to choose one nationality. She said she is British as well as Japanese and she doesn't want the system tells her to choose one nationality. Dual nationality allows people to play and work more freely across countries. It could bring more young people to live in Japan when the country population is declining radically. More taxes too.
I've seen people afraid of dual nationality system say they don't want Japan's welfare to be used. Does it mean they are afraid of people flying to Japan to depend on the welfare because they cannot earn incomes to live? I've never met people like that. I wonder how much that happens.
