わたしは、特に数字をよく間違えます。生放送のラジオ番組でよくやったのが、英語ではアメリカドルやイギリスポンドで書いてあるのを日本円に直す時に、桁を間違えてしまうというもの。
この弱点に早々に気づいたカビラさん初めスタッフは、原稿に大きな数字が出てくると確認するようになりました。わたしの結婚パーティーでも、カビラさんにそのエピソードを披露されましたね。。。苦笑
もちろん、わたしが書く時にはすでにダブルチェックを重ねているわけです。それでも間違えてしまうというのは、本当に数字に弱いということですね。。。最後には、トリプルチェックまでし、そのあと余裕があれば、この計算をしてと他の人にお願いしていました。
そんな経験があるので、今でも撮影スケジュールを組む時は、ひたすら紙に書き、取材対象者には何度も連絡をして確認をするという慎重な姿勢を貫いています。いつでも最低ダブルチェク、必要ならば何度でも。これがわたしのやり方です。
I make mistakes in numbers. What I would do was when I was currency calculation in big numbers. The original article was in pounds or USD, and I needed to convert it into yen. Digits would get mixed up and the radio show I was working was a live show.
The radio personality Jon and staff noticed my weak point early on, and they would check my script when it was involved in big numbers. Jon revealed that episode in my wedding reception too!
Of course I was double checking all the time. But I still made mistakes. So I did triple, quadruple check and asked other people to calculate too.
Based on that, I still double check or more when I fix filming schedules. I write everything on paper a few times if necessary, and tell contributors more than once whenever I have a chance. That's my way.
