今日は、高校時代の友人とランチをしました。男性で、連絡は常々取っている人物。とはいえ、実際に会うのは数年ぶり。気のおけない関係で、性別を超える友情はあると思う異性の友人の一人です。
さて、彼が契約社員だったのが正社員採用となったことに話が及びました。40半ばの人間を、正社員で採用するというのは、早期退職を促している企業としては異例中の異例だったということ。
しかし、彼を欲する部署があり、その部署は会社の稼ぎ頭なので人事としても採らざるを得なかったということらしいです。
それだけでも、いままでやってきた仕事ぶりが認められての話だということはわかるのですが、とにかく彼は自分の仕事を５年先、10年先と読んでいるというのが印象的でした。何歳になったらこうしたい、そのためにはどう動くべきか。そして着実に出世のステップを上がっているところがすごいと思いました。
わたしも、自分の体のことについては数十年先を見据えての計画を立てているのですが、仕事をそのように計画したことがなかったので、もう少し丁寧に見直そう、と思わされました。知り合ってから30年、そういう友人と未だに話が合うということはありがたいことです。
I had lunch with friend from high school. It's a he and we regularly keep in touch, but we hand't seen in years. He is one of the guys I think there is a friendship between man and woman.
We talked about his recent position that he had from a contract worker to full-engaged contract, where you can work until you need to be retired. His company is one of Japan's major companies urging its employees early retirement so it was extremely a rare case that he was hired with that position in his mid-40s.
There was the department wanting him to work there and the department was earning a lot of the company's revenues so HR couldn't say no.
That tells that his performance was great but what I was impressed was he thinks ahead so much in 5 and 10 years about work. He plans what he wants to do at age what and for that how he should act. He has been promoted successfully at different places, which is impressive.
I have my plans thinking ahead regarding body, but not work. The conversation with him made me think I should think more carefully about my career path. It's been 30 years since we met, and I am grateful we can still talk about many things in common.
